Deliverance is the Children's Bread - God Promises to Deliver Us
In Matthew 15, a Canaanite woman approached Jesus and his disciples and cried out to Jesus to deliver her demon possessed daughter who was suffering terribly. However, at first Jesus did not answer her. The story is found in Matthew 15:21-28. Jesus refused to help her at first and replied that He was sent to the lost sheep of Israel, and it was not right or fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs or Gentiles. Jesus was making the point that the gospel was to be given first to the Jews. The woman understood what Jesus implied and was willing to settle for crumbs. She wouldn't take no for an answer, and because of her great faith, Jesus answered her request. He listened to her cry and delivered and healed her daughter.
Deliverance is a part of the covenantal blessings found in Jesus Christ. Deliverance is our portion also, because we are Abrahams' children, heirs according to the promise. John 1:12-13 says, "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-children born not of a natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God," (NIV). Galatians 3:7-9 says, "Understand, then that those who have faith are the children of Abraham. Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham. 'All nations will be blessed through you:’ So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith," (NIV). Deliverance is the children's bread.
God promises to deliver us from any bondage, whether it be an addiction, fear, doubt and unbelief, excessive grief, unforgiveness and bitterness, sickness and disease, debt, poverty and lack, demonic oppression and possession, etc. In Exodus 3, God told Moses that He was going to send him to Egypt to deliver His people. Exodus 3:7-10 says, "The Lord said, 'I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers and I am concerned about their suffering. So, I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey-the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them," (NIV).
When Moses went to Pharoah and commanded him to let God's people go, so that they may hold a festival celebrating their God, Pharoah made life worse than before. The people were put under greater suffering. Moses returned to God and complained to Him. Exodus 6:1-10. God brought the ten plagues upon Egypt and Pharoah was forced to let God's people go. Deliverance is the children's bread.
In the book of Esther, God delivered His people from Haman's wicked plot to destroy the Jews. Haman was an official in King Xerxes administration, however he hated the Jews and made a plan to destroy them. However, God delivered His people from destruction. Instead of God's people being destroyed, Haman and the enemies of the Jews were killed. Esther 9:23-28.
In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus quoted from the prophet Isaiah 61:1-3. Jesus announced His apostolic mandate to everyone in the synagogue. Luke 4:18-19 reads, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor," (NIV). Jesus' mandate was to deliver us the children of God from every oppression or captivity or anything that threatens to bring us harm. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and deliverance is still the children's bread.
2 Chronicles 16:9 says, "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him," (NIV). Psalm 91:14-16 says, "Because he loves me,' says the LORD, 'I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation," (NIV). Psalm 118:13-17, 2 Corinthians 1:8-10, 2 Timothy 4:16-18. Deliverance is the children's bread.
